About Nicci & Running Short

Well hello! I’m Nicci, and I’m Running Short.

It all started right before my 30th birthday this past April. I stood on the scale and saw my highest non-pregnancy weight. I was so inactive I couldn’t even chase my children down the driveway when they tried to escape without needing a rest after. I knew something needed to change. On April 1st, I logged into My Fitness Pal and started tracking my food.

After I dropped 15 pounds, I had the crazy idea to start running. I’d tried various couch to 5K programs and quit after about three days each time. This time, before I even laced up my shoes, I registered for a 5K race. I thought that if I registered and paid for a race, I’d be more determined to follow through on my training. I was right!

I found a beginner 5K training program through RunKeeper that brought me from barely being able to walk a mile to finishing my first 5K on August 16th. My goal was to finish, and my dream goal was to finish under 40 minutes. I was 21 seconds short of my dream, but I felt AMAZING! The next day I went and registered for two more 5K races. And then a 10K race.

As of today, I’ve lost almost 35 pounds, have much better eating habits, belong to a gym, and actually enjoy running! I know, I don’t even know me, either.

I started this blog to document my journey as a beginning runner, and to try and be an inspiration to those who want to start but just don’t know how. The way I see it, if I can do it, anyone can!

What does Running Short mean? Well for starters, it means I’m 5′ 3/4″ on a good day, so I have that as a wonderful disadvantage when it comes to running, haha! It’s also a reference to how I’m always Running Short of something, be it time, energy, money, or motivation.

My contact information is in my sidebar, but if you’d like, you can fill out this form and I’ll get back to you!
